The charming resort of Olhos d´Água may seem a million miles away from the busy, bustling resorts that surround it, but the town’s tranquil atmosphere is just what some tourists are looking for. It’s hard to imagine that Olhos d´Água actually lies between two of the liveliest resorts on the whole coast – Albufeira, and Vilamoura.
This is what makes Olhos d´Água the perfect choice for either a holiday, or a property purchase. The resort is home to a fishing community, like so many Algarve coastal towns and villages, and is still essentially Algarvian. For those visitors who prefer quiet days on unspoilt beaches, with a choice of good eating places in the evening, Olhos definitely fits the bill.
There are no significant night clubs here; during the summer season many of the bars in the resort have live music and stay open quite late, but for all- night clubbers the best place is the Albufeira ‘Strip’, only 3 kilometers away.
Olhos d´Água is even more tranquil off- season, but with mild winter temperatures it is an ideal location for anyone wishing to escape a northern winter. During the summer the resort is very popular with Portuguese families as well as other European holidaymakers.
The town beach is a picturesque area, with good sand, clear sparkling water and attractive cliffs, with umbrella pine trees forming a delightful back-drop. It’s a quiet, child-friendly beach used by local fishermen who haul their brightly coloured boats up onto the sand.
Santa Eulalia is another child- friendly beach and is very close to Olhos.
The much busier Praia da Falesia is close by, for those who prefer a more commercial beach. Although it is very long (8km) and stretches all the way to the huge resort of Vilamoura it is still one of the most beautiful beaches in this part of the Algarve.
A unique feature of the Olhos d´Água beach is the fresh water springs which give the town its name. The springs can be seen amongst the rocks when the tide is out, but they take a bit of spotting!
Although there is not a lot of organised entertainment or sporting activities in Olhos, there are some excellent restaurants within the town, and there are plenty of water parks, golf courses and boat excursions in the vicinity.
There are several small holiday complexes around Olhos d’Agua as well as individual properties in town, which are popular with holidaymakers, so for property investment Olhos is a very good choice. The out-of town apartments will provide summer lettings, but town property can be a very good option for personal use or weekly rental in the high season and longer lets during the winter.
